Hawaii Health Connector to reach Native Hawaiians

The Hawaii Health Connector is working with the Sovereign Councils of the Hawaiian Homelands Assembly to reach out to Native Hawaiians who may not have health coverage.

The two groups signed a $675,000 agreement on Tuesday.

The partnership would provide outreach and education services to help Native Hawaiians enroll in health coverage plans. The team will meet in every Hawaiian Home Lands community and knock on doors to help people overcome health concerns that plague the community.

Health Connector Program Manager Anela McAfee-Torco says that Native Hawaiians experience significant health disparities.

Chairman Kamaki Kanahele of the Hawaiian Homelands Assembly says helping their neighbors with health care advances the health and self-determination of Native Hawaiian people.
