Trail stewards sought for Haleakala National Park

MAKAWAO, Hawaii >> Haleakala National Park is looking for “fit and enthusiastic” Maui residents to serve as trail stewards.

The program starts in June. The program educates backpackers and day visitors about the natural and cultural resources in the wilderness area of the crater.

Volunteers will hike popular trails and provide information to visitors.

Interested applicants must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation and must be able to commit to one eight-hour day per month. Volunteers must be fit and able to hike at high altitudes in steep terrain.

Accepted applicants will be required to attend two-day training in May.
