Cal Poly took advantage of three Hawaii errors to rally to a 6-4 win in the opening game of a Big West softball series Friday night at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

UH led 4-1 going into the fifth inning but the visiting Mustangs scored two unearned runs in the fifth, tied the game in the sixth and scored the go-ahead run on an error in the seventh and sent UH to its fifth straight loss.

UH (19-20, 4-6 Big West) and Cal Poly (23-16, 5-5) conclude the series with a doubleheader on Saturday. The first game is scheduled for 2 p.m.

UH scored the game’s first two runs on two-out wild pitches. UH loaded the bases in the bottom of the first and Jazmine Zamora scored on a pitch to the backstop.

Keiki Carlos singled with two out in the third inning and went to third on Leisha Li’ili’i’s looping single into center. Carlos then gave UH a 2-0 lead on Hyland’s second wild pitch of the game.

After Cal Poly scored its first run on Jillian Andersen’s RBI single in the top of the fourth, UH answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Kristina Akiona drove in Sharla Kliebenstein with a single to right and Sarina Jaramillo later scored from third on a double steal.

Cal Poly put two runners on with two out in the fifth and both scored when UH center fielder Lindsey Willmon couldn’t secure a running catch of Mariah Cochiolo’s drive to right center.

The Mustangs tied the game in the sixth when Ashley Romano reached on a bunt single, went to second on a sacrifice and scored on Lauren Moreno’s single to the center-field fence.

Cal Poly’s Courtney Tyler led off the top of the seventh with a single and pinch-runner Cami Brown went to second on a sacrifice bunt. After a groundout, Shea Williams’ grounder got past UH third baseman Kaile Nakao and Brown came around from second with the go-ahead run.

Moreno later drew a bases-loaded walk to give the Mustangs a two-run cushion going into the bottom of the seventh.

UH put two runners on base with one out, but two grounders to shortstop ended the game.
