A portion of Kalanianaole Highway between Hanauma Bay and Sandy Beach will be closed nightly beginning Sunday through May 16 to replace rusted guardrail in the area, the Hawaii Department of Transportation said.

Work will take place Sunday nights through Friday mornings from 9 p.m. until 4 a.m.

Traffic will be rerouted to to Lunalilo Home Rd. and Kealahou St.

The $450,000 project will replace approximately 3,500 feet of guardrail. An epoxy coating will be applied to better protect the guardrails from the salt air in this coastline environment, the HDOT said.
