Longtime Maui restaurant to close
Stella Blues Cafe in Kihei, Maui will be closing, according to an unsigned announcement on its Facebook page.
"After 23 years Stella Blues Cafe is closing its doors," the announcement said, attributing the closure to inability to come to terms on a new lease with the landlord. "We have put our landlords in a tough situation," the statement said, crediting the landlord with assistance over the years.
The restaurant is in Azeka Shopping Center II.
"I can’t thank all of the people that have worked with and for us over the years and all the customers that have been loyal since I was a child. I have a very heavy heart but it’s also a freeing feeling that I have not felt in my adult life."
A specific closing date was not given, and General Manager Kale Boverman, also listed in state records as the sole member of Stella Blues Cafe LLC, could not be immediately reached.
Numerous fans of the restaurant from Maui, neighbor islands, and the mainland posted sorrowful messages of loss, memories of the restaurant and memories of occasions the restaurant had catered for them over the years.
