UH releases Inouye Center design concepts
The University of Hawaii unveiled preliminary design concepts for the future Daniel K. Inouye Center for Democratic Leadership Wednesday featuring not only space for the late senator’s papers but areas designated as "student innovation zones" and "civic engagement areas."
The concepts are part of the pre-design phase for the multimillion-dollar building and face another year of tweaking before the plan is finalized.
Many of the conceptual ideas for the three-story building came during workshops with students, faculty and the community, said architect Janine Clifford of Honolulu.
Incorporated into the plan are some sustainable features, including use of the tradewinds for natural ventilation.
