Maui police and the Department of Public Safety are looking for an escaped inmate from the Maui Community Correctional Center.

Junior Jorju, 40, was discovered missing at a 9:30 p.m. headcount Saturday, according to a spokeswoman for the Public Safety Department.

The prison went into lockdown and guards searched the facility.

Jorju was serving 14 days for driving without a license and contempt of court. He started serving his time on July 7 and was scheduled to be released on July 20.

Jorju was considered a “community custody” inmate, the lowest risk level.

How Jorju escaped is under investigation.

Jorju is described as 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighing 135 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

Authorities say anyone seeing Jorju should not approach him and should call 911 to report the sighting.
