The Hawaii men’s basketball team will face Nebraska of the Big Ten in the first round of the 2014 Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic on Dec. 22, ESPN announced on Tuesday morning.

UH will face either Wichita State or Loyola Marymount on the second day of the eight-team tournament (Dec. 23) held at the Stan Sheriff Center, and one of Colorado, George Washington, Ohio or DePaul on Christmas Day.

Nebraska went 19-13 last season and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. The Cornhuskers immediately become the marquee opponent on UH’s 2014-15 home schedule.

The Rainbow Warriors have met the Cornhuskers eight times in program history, all in the islands, with the ‘Bows claiming a 6-2 series lead. That includes a notable victory at the Sheriff in 2004 in the second round of the NIT.
