Hawaii News Now stations back on DirecTV

Raycom stations are blacked out on DISH in 36 U.S. markets, including Hawaii.

DirecTV and Raycom Media, have agreed to restore Raycom Media’s 43 local broadcast stations to DirecTV customers on Sunday.

Raycom Media is the parent company of Hawaii News Now stations KGMB-TV, KHNL-TV (the CBS and NBC affiliates, respectively), and KFVE-TV (no network affiliation).

Because of a dispute between DirecTV and Alabama-based Raycom Media since Sept. 1, DirecTV customers were not able to watch KGMB-TV or KHNL-TV or any of the CBS or NBC network-affiliated programming the stations carry.

"We thank all of our affected customers for their patience over these past several days and regret that Raycom and too many other broadcast stations are willing to resort to these contrived blackouts to antagonize the public rather than serve it," said Dan York, chief content officer at DirecTV.

"We appreciate our viewer’s patience. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank them for their loyalty to their local stations throughout this process. We are very pleased to be, once again, serving them on the DirecTV system and will keep them informed as we work to finalize this agreement," said Raycom Media President and CEO Paul McTear in a statement.
