HILO >> A 44-year-old Big Island utility truck driver has been indicted on a felony negligent driving count for a 2012 crash that killed a woman.

The Hawaii Tribune-Herald reports Gary Fujii of Mountain View was indicted in the death of 42-year-old Sheila Goto of Keopu on Feb. 9, 2012.

Deputy Prosecutor Kimberly Taniyama says Fujii drove his truck with the boom in the up position.

Police say Fujii was behind the wheel of a Leleiwi Electric Inc. utility truck and that the boom snagged a utility line.

The truck fell on the driver’s side, slid and struck a pickup truck driven by Goto.

She was taken Kona Community Hospital and declared dead less than three hours later.

Fujii and two passengers in the pickup were injured.
