Cars travel through a flooded Meheula Parkway in Mililani Wednesday afternoon.

Light tradewinds have returned to the islands, bringing slight relief from the heat and humidity. But the winds are not strong enough to prevent sea breezes from blowing in this afternoon and the possibility of more afternoon showers in mauka and leeward areas.

Some of the isolated showers could be heavy, National Weather Service forecasters said.

Mililani saw 2.8 inches of rain Wednesday afternoon, while other areas had minimal rainfall.

Forecasters are expecting a few tradewind showers in windward and mauka areas Friday morning, along with more afternoon leeward and mauka rain.

But even the light tradewinds won’t last long and are forecast to leave over the weekend.

As the tradewinds leave, Kona winds and vog could move over the other islands early next week.

There’s a chance tradewinds could return Wednesday and bring some relief.
