UH soccer team loses at UCSB
The Hawaii soccer team lost 2-1 in heartbreaking fashion at UC Santa Barbara on Friday night, as the Gauchos headed in the game-winning goal with nine seconds left in regulation.
UH (6-7, 1-2 Big West) rallied with a second-half goal by Kama Pascua after the Gauchos (7-5-2, 1-2) scored in the second minute, and seemed in good position to take the match to overtime.
But the Gauchos crossed the ball in from the left wing on a 50-yard free kick and goalkeeper Erica Young stopped UCSB’s initial header attack. The ball deflected straight up and a second header by UCSB’s Madison Beckley was good from point-blank range.
The Gauchos outshot the Rainbow Wahine 16-8. Young had six saves.
UH will go for a split of its two-game road trip at Cal Poly on Sunday.
