Police and fire officials investigating car fire in Chinatown
Police and fire officials are investigating a suspicious vehicle fire that occurred in Chinatown Friday night.
At 11:33 p.m., firefighters responded to call of a Toyota pick-up truck on fire on the fifth floor of an open-air parking garage. The fire was under control at 11:49 p.m.
Honolulu Fire Spokesman Capt. James Todd said two other vehicles parked on each side of the truck also sustained damage.
Police said there were suspicious circumstances at the scene.
There were conflicting reports about whether the truck was stolen. Police said the vehicle wasn’t stolen. Todd said it was believed to be a stolen vehicle.
Firefighters returned to the site Saturday morning to assist police to retrieve tools, extension chords and other items atop trees near the parking garage.

Investigators are looking into whether there’s a link between the vehicle fire and the items that appeared to have been thrown over from the parking garage.
Damage is estimated at $30,000. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
