A 64-year-old Kailua-Kona man who was injured in a single-vehicle crash on Oct. 9 has died.

According to police, Michael Fox was traveling east on Hinalani Street near Anini Street and was attempting to pass a turning vehicle when his moped struck a rut in the road and crashed.

Fox was transported to Kona Community Hospital and later flown to the Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu, where he was pronounced dead on Oct. 10.

Police do not believe that speed or alcohol were factors.

A coroner’s inquest investigation is underway. The official cause of death is pending an autopsy report.

The accident marks the 10th traffic fatality on the Hawaii island this year, compared with 23 fatalities at the same point last year.
