Maui unseated as top U.S. island

Kiawah Island in S. Carolina has displaced Maui as the top island in the U.S., bumping the Valley Isle to No. 3 on the 2014 Conde Nast Readers’ Choice rankings.
The list of the Top 30 islands in the world is led by Palawan in the Philippines, which the magazine says "shot to the top" because of the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River, which travels five miles through an underground cave system and for which guided tours are available.
Kauai is No. 4 in the world, while Hawaii island is at No. 10 and Oahu is in 16th place.
Hawaii’s top resort, according to Conde Nast readers, is Wailea Beach Villas, on Maui, an 11-acre, gated community with private residences.
It unseated last year’s winner, the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai.
Additionally, the Wailea Beach Villas ranks at No. 14 on the list of top 25 U.S. resorts, on which no other Hawaii resort appears.
