PAHOA, Hawaii >> The front of a lava flow slowly creeping toward rural communities on the Big Island has stalled again.

Hawaii County Civil Defense says a Monday morning flight over the area shows no advancement since the previous day.

The leading edge of the flow remains about a half-mile from Pahoa’s Apaa Street. Officials say a very narrow finger along the east edge of the front has broken out and advanced about 30 yards.

While there’s no immediate threat, the lava’s slow-moving activity poses eventual harm to communities in the rural and isolated Puna district.

There’s uncertainty about where the unpredictable lava flow is headed and when it will impact communities.

The lava’s progress has been full of stop-and-go slow advancements in recent weeks.
