New Hope Oahu’s insurer says it paid $279,295 in damage claims resulting from the collapse of Farrington High School’s auditorium in 2012.

Liberty Surplus Insurance Corp. now wants the state to reimburse it because New Hope was leasing the auditorium from the state Department of Education. Liberty filed a lawsuit against the state in state Circuit Court on Thursday.

The auditorium’s roof collapsed Nov. 23, 2012. No one was injured.

Up until then, New Hope had been conducting Sunday church services in the auditorium.
