Hawaii’s Carissa Moore wins season-ending event
Hawaii surfer Carissa Moore won the season-ending Target Maui Pro on Thursday at Honolua Bay, Maui.
Moore defeated Australia’s Tyler Wright in the final with a 9.73 score in 4- to 6-foot waves in the ASP Women’s World Championship Tour’s final event of the 2014 season. Wright tallied an 8.50.
Moore’s win over Wright gave Australia’s Stephanie Gilmore the ASP world title, the sixth of her career.
Moore finished third in the final 2014 world tour standings with 61,400 points and $281,250 in winnings. Wright was second with 62,200 points, 2,000 behind Gilmore’s winning total.
Hawaii’s Malia Manuel was fifth in the final standings with 43,600 points; Coco Ho was 12th with 28,750; Alessa Quizon was 15th with 22,100; Alana Blanchard finished 17th with 14,000; and Tatiana Weston-Webb was 18th with 9,900.
