A large northeast swell rising Tuesday evening threatens to bring surf up to 18 feet along east-facing shores throughout the state.

The looming surf prompted officials at the National Weather Service to replace the earlier high surf advisory with a high surf warning through 6 p.m. Wednesday. Waves are expected to hit 12 to 18 feet, forecasters said.

Beachgoers are advised to heed all advice given by ocean safety officials.
