Clothes fire forces Hilo Walmart to close
Burning clothes on a Hilo Walmart clothing rack sent smoke billowing throughout the store and forced it to close Tuesday.
The fire was reported at 4:22 p.m. at the Walmart at 325 East Maka’ala Street. By the time firefighters arrived five minutes later, a quick-thinking sales associate had used a dry chemical extinguisher to put out the fire in a free-standing clothes rack, which minimized the damage, Hawaii County firefighters said.
No one was injured and the cause of the fire was under investigation.
