The Hawaii County police department identified the two boys killed when they were apparently trapped in a burning home in Holualoa Thursday.

One of the boys was 6-year-old Kaeden Matsuyama and the other was 11-year-old Dexen Matsuyama. Autopsy results are pending.

Two adults and two other children escaped without injury.

Arriving Hawaii County firefighters found the one-story home near Holualoa School engulfed in flames in 76-5000 block of Old Mamalahoa Highway at 2:10 a.m.

Family members told firefighters that two people were still in the home. But fire crews were unable to enter the burning building, where the walls and ceilings had collapsed.

Firefighters found the bodies of the two boys after they were able to enter the structure.

Police and firefighters are jointly investigating the cause of the fire. Police do not suspect foul play. An autopsy will be scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.

A property damage estimate was not immediately available.
