Manoa residents stood in line to turn in their ballots after voting in the primary election Aug. 9 at Manoa Elementary School. Polling hours for the Nov. 4 general election are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

A Hawaii state Senate committee is planning to take up a slew of bills that aim to improve elections.

The bills are being introduced after Hawaii’s recent elections were thrown off track by a series of natural disasters that hit Hawaii’s Big Island.

One proposal would require the state to conduct all elections by mail. Another proposal attempts to set up new procedures for recounting ballots.

The Senate Committee on Judiciary and Labor is planning to take up the bills Wednesday morning.

A bill to hold elections officers accountable for voting problems is moving through the Hawaii House.
