A Maui Community Correctional Center inmate, who was awaiting release on parole, could be charged with escape after failing to return from a work furlough Thursday.

Raymond Ahuna, 43, left the facility at 8 a.m. Thursday and was supposed to return at 6.m.

State sheriffs recaptured him at about 10:25 a.m. Friday at the Harbor Lights condominium parking lot in Wailuku. He was returned to MCCC at about 11 a.m.

Ahuna is serving time for forgery and theft and his parole was tentatively approved, the Department of Public Safety said. His release date was pending verification of an appropriate residence.
