Pedestrian critically injured on Kapahulu Avenue

    Honolulu police investigate the scene of a pedestrian accident on Kapahulu Avenue early Friday morning.

A pedestrian on Kapahulu Avenue near Kanaina Street suffered critical injuries Friday morning in a traffic accident.

Paramedics treated and took a 34-year-old man to the hospital in serious condition following the 3:30 a.m. accident but he was later downgraded to critical condition.

Police said the man was not in a marked crosswalk.

Honolulu Police closed Kapahulu Avenue heading toward Waikiki until about 7:30 a.m. as Traffic Division officers examined the scene.

Traffic heading to Waikiki was re-routed to Kanaina Street.
