Hawaii held to three hits in Pepperdine’s 2-0 win

A.J. Puckett tossed a three-hitter and Brad Anderson and Manny Jefferson hit RBI singles for Pepperdine in a 2-0 win over Hawaii on Saturday afternoon at Eddy D. Field Stadium in Malibu, Calif.

Puckett (2-1) struck out a career-high 10 to give the Waves (6-5) a 2-1 series lead over the Rainbow Warriors (5-7).

Junior L.J. Brewster (2-1) was impressive once again in his third start, striking out a career-high eight in seven innings. He allowed five hits and one earned run with two walks.

Hawaii was scored one run in its last two games after beating Pepperdine 15-8 in the opener.

Kaeo Aliviado, Eric Ramirez and J.J. Kitaoka had UH’s three hits. Kitaoka’s two-out error in the fourth inning allowed Jefferson to single home Pepperdine’s first run. Anderson added a one-out single in the fifth to score Hutton Moyer.

Brewster retired the last eight batters he faced. Puckett retired the last 10 UH batters after Aliviado drew a two-out walk in the sixth.

The series ends on Sunday at 11 a.m. Junior Kyle Von Ruden (1-0, 2.38 ERA) will start for UH.
