$1M bail for son charged with stabbing, clubbing Maui mother
WAILUKU >> A Kahului man is being held on $1 million bail for allegedly stabbing and bludgeoning his mother to death.
Keoni Vinuya Tomas is charged with murder in the death of his mother, Kimberly Vinuya.
Police say a report of someone screaming led officers to Vinuya’s body Monday inside the home she shared with her son.
Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Carson Tani says Tomas allegedly stabbed his mother several times and bludgeoned her with a club.
The Maui News reports Tomas is involved in an investigation into the January death of his aunt, Gail Otsuka. Tomas was released without being charged, pending an investigation.
The county public defender’s office withdrew representing Tomas because the mother was a client of the office. The court will appoint a private attorney to represent him.
