Brashears, Culp deal Hawaii past Oklahoma
Tyler Brashears allowed one unearned run over seven quality innings and Cody Culp recorded the final six outs for his fourth save in Hawaii’s 2-1 win over Oklahoma on Friday night at Les Murakami Stadium.
J.J. Kitaoka went 2-for-5 with an RBI double and Alex Sawelson had two hits and scored a run to provide enough offense for Hawaii (7-11), who evened the series against the Soones (13-8).
Brashears (3-2) walked two and allowed five hits with six strikeouts in a 110-pitch performance for the Rainbow Warriors.
Matt Valencia walked both batters he faced to start the eighth but was bailed out by Culp, who retired all six batters he faced.
Alec Hansen (2-2) needed 94 pitches to get through four innings and took the loss for Oklahoma, allowing two runs on five hits with four walks and five strikeouts.
