Cal Poly blasts Hawaii to complete sweep
Brett Barbier crushed a three-run homer and Mark Mathias went 3-for-5 with a triple and three runs scored to lead Cal Poly to a 12-5 victory over Hawaii on Sunday to complete a series sweep at Baggett Stadium in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
Barbier added a two-run triple and finished with six RBIs for the Mustangs (14-18, 4-2 Big West), who have won six in a row against Hawaii (12-23, 3-6).
The Rainbow Warriors have lost four in a row and were swept in a conference series for the sixth time in the last two years.
Chayce Ka’aua, Alex Sawelson and Alan Baldwin all had three hits apiece for UH, which outhit Cal Poly 35 to 29 in the series.
Jarrett Arakawa (2-1) took the loss allowing four runs on five hits in 2 2/3 innings.
Hawaii used seven different pitchers in the game.
