Former isle residents die in Vegas car crash
NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. » A mother and daughter who had recently moved to Las Vegas from Hawaii were among four people killed after a speeding car veered into oncoming lanes and crashed head-on into another vehicle on a shortcut between two Las Vegas-area freeways.
All three people in a Toyota Camry died at the scene of the three-vehicle wreck at about 5 p.m. Wednesday, North Las Vegas police officer Aaron Patty said.
A woman, 56, identified as Sheryl Kam Uyematsu was driving the Toyota.
Her passengers were 50-year-old John Thomas Snide and 26-year-old Allison Lai Ling Uyematsu. All were from North Las Vegas.
Allison Uyematsu was identified as a 2007 graduate of Saint Francis School by the school’s head, Sister Joan of Arc Souza.
The Clark County coroner’s office identified the victims Friday.

Patty said 28-year-old Deonta Lozada Walker of Las Vegas was driving a Nissan 350Z and caused the crash. He died later at University Medical Center in Las Vegas.
The driver of a Ford F-150 pickup that was also involved in the wreck suffered minor injuries, Patty said.
Crash investigators say Walker was speeding in a 45 mph zone on Lamb Boulevard near Centennial Parkway when he lost control of his vehicle and slammed into the Toyota.
The four-lane road is a popular shortcut between Interstate 15 and the 215 Beltway northwest of Las Vegas.
