Hawaii pitcher Tyler Brashears (27) delivers in the first inning of a college baseball game between the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors and the CSU Northridge Matadors on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Les Murakami Stadium in Manoa. Hawaii won 3-1.

Hawaii junior Tyler Brashears was named the Big West pitcher of the week on Monday.

Brashears shut down the top hitting team in the conference on Saturday, working 7 2/3 innings of three-hit ball in Hawaii’s 1-0 win over No. 9 UC Santa Barbara.

The right-hander walked one and struck out five to improve to 6-4 for the season.

He has allowed one earned run or fewer in seven of his past eight starts and has pitched into the seventh inning in four consecutive appearances.

Brashears’ 1.97 ERA ranks fourth among starters in the Big West behind Long Beach State’s Chris Mathewson and UC Santa Barbara’s Dillon Tate and Shane Bieber.

He is the first Rainbow Warrior to earn weekly conference honors this season.

Hawaii (15-26, 6-9) plays its next six games on the road, beginning Friday at Long Beach State.
