Hawaii pitcher Tyler Brashears wins another Big West weekly award
Hawaii junior Tyler Brashears was named the Big West Conference pitcher of the week on Monday.
Brashears, who also won the award last week, pitched eight shutout innings allowing only four hits in a 1-0 win over Long Beach State on Saturday.
The right-hander from Lake Forest, Calif., has won his last three starts and hasn’t given up a run in 21 consecutive innings. He’s 4-2 with a 1.25 ERA in six conference starts and is 7-4 with a 1.78 ERA overall, ranking third in the BWC.
In the win over the Dirtbags, Brashears didn’t allow a runner to reach third base and walked two with three strikeouts.
His seven wins overall are tied for second in the conference.
Hawaii (18-26, 9-9) has won nine of its last 15 games in conference and became the first team to sweep Long Beach State at Blair Field in BWC play since 2010.
