A 37-year-old Honolulu police officer was charged Wednesday in federal court in Honolulu in connection with an alleged assault at an illegal gambling house.

Vincent Morre will plead guilty as charged very soon and and is taking full responsibility for his actions, says his attorney, David Hayakawa.

Morre, a nine-year veteran of the Honolulu Police Department, was charged with two counts of deprivation of rights under color of law, 18 U.S.C. Section 242, which is a civil rights violation of a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison for each count.

He will surrender himself for fingerprinting and processing at his arraignment next week, an FBI spokesman said.
