Hawaii opens series at UC Riverside with 4th straight win
Jacob Sheldon-Collins had three hits and Kaeo Aliviado hit a two-run double in a four-run fifth inning for Hawaii in a 6-3 win over UC Riverside on Thursday in the opener of a three-game series at Riverside Sports Complex in Riverside, Calif.
L.J. Brewster (6-4) allowed three runs over 6 1/3 innings with two walks and four strikeouts to extend Hawaii’s winning streak to four games.
Andrew Jones struck out four in 1 2/3 innings and Quintin Torres-Costa finished off the ninth for his seventh save to move Hawaii (19-26, 10-9 Big West) over .500 in conference play.
Alex Sawelson doubled and scored Hawaii’s first run in the fourth inning and UH added four more runs in the fifth off UC Riverside starter Joie Dunyon (1-3).
In 10 appearances in Big West play, Torres-Costa has recorded 19 strikeouts in 15 2/3 scoreless innings.
The Highlanders are 13-33 and 2-14 in conference.
