Sources confirmed Monday that Central Wyoming College guard Bryce Canda has given an oral commitment to play for the Hawaii basketball team and new coach Eran Ganot starting next season.

Canda, a 6-foot-4 sophomore with two years of eligibility remaining, would be the first player signed by Ganot if Canda follows through with his commitment on paper during the current spring signing period.

A UH source confirmed Canda took an official visit to the Manoa campus over the weekend.

The Portland, Ore., native averaged 19.3 points on 46.8 percent shooting from the field, 41.5 percent on 3-pointers and 79.6 percent on free throws. He contributed 6.1 rebounds and 3.7 assists for a team that went 19-10.

He received recruiting interest from several other schools, according to the website OregonLive.com, including Portland State, Eastern Washington, Ball State, Saint Mary’s, Creighton and Texas Tech.
