Former UH receiver Greg Salas signs with Detroit Lions
Former University of Hawaii receiver Greg Salas has signed a free-agent contract with the Detroit Lions.
Salas became a free agent after his contract with the New York Jets expired at the end of the 2014 season.
Salas said he has fully recovered from a hamstring injury he suffered during a nationally televised Monday night game in December. He scored on a 20-yard reverse for his first NFL regular-season touchdown. A day later, he was placed on the injured reserve list for the rest of the season.
Salas, who completed his UH eligibility with the 2010 Hawaii Bowl, was the St. Louis Rams’ fourth-round draft pick in 2011. He also played for the Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots before joining the Jets in 2013.
Several teams contacted Salas’ agent. Salas said the Lions, who run a spread attack similar to the New Orleans Saints’, were the best fit.
