Cyclist struck, killed by truck during California bike race
DIXON, Calif. » Authorities say man participating in a Northern California bicycle race was killed after being hit by a truck.
California Highway Patrol officials said the 50-year-old Rocklin man rode into the path of the tractor-trailer truck on Saturday after failing to stop at the stop sign in Dixon, about 20 miles southwest of Sacramento.
The driver could not stop in time and ran over the cyclist.
The cyclist, whose name has not been released, was riding in the Davis Double Century ride, a 200-mile race through Yolo, Solano, Napa and Lake counties. Organizers rerouted the ride away from where the fatal crash occurred.
