No tsunami threat to Hawaii after strong earthquake in Santa Cruz Isles
A preliminary magnitude 6.9 earthquake poses no tsunami threat to Hawaii, according to officials at the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.
The temblor struck at 12:48 p.m. Hawaii time, 114 miles west of Lata, Solomon Islands at a depth of 12.3 miles, according to officials at the U.S. Geological Survey.
No injuries were immediately reported and PTWC officials said a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami is not expected.
