A firefighter stomps down a flareup as other firefighters work to contain a brushfire on the Ewa slope of Diamond Head on Saturday in Kahala. This was the second brushfire of the day, with the first one in Aiea near the Pearl Country Club just two hours before.

About 40 firefighters battled a brush fire that climbed the slopes of Diamond Head near the former Cannon Club Saturday, bringing it under control before any structures were threatened.

Nine companies, a tanker truck and a battalion chief were sent to the blaze, Fire Department spokesman Kendall Ching said. The first alarm came in at 4:01 p.m. and the blaze was contained at 5:03 p.m., he said.

“No property damage or injuries were reported,” Ching said shortly afterward. “It’s not fully extinguished yet. We don’t have any acreage estimate.”

The fire did not reach the ridgeline of the crater, and Diamond Head trail was not affected.

Honolulu Police dispatch said Diamond Head Road was closed between the intersection of Monsarrat and Trouseau to the entrance of Diamond Head Crater just after 5 p.m. The road was reopened at 6:36 p.m.
