Tour buses not allowed in Punchbowl on Memorial Day weekend
Tour buses won’t be allowed inside the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific during Memorial Day weekend.
The cemetery says the restriction is needed to efficiently control the flow of traffic and visitors. It’s also needed to preserve the spiritual integrity of ceremonies being held at the cemetery.
Tour buses will be allowed back in the cemetery at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell will host a Memorial Day ceremony at 8:30 a.m. on Monday. The ceremony is open to the public. Bus service to Punchbowl will be available from the Alapai Transit Center.
Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts will place 38,000 lei on grave markers the day before.
