UFC: Cormier to fight Gustafsson, Weidman to get Rockhold
LAS VEGAS » The UFC has set two high-profile matchups for upcoming title fights.
Light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier is expected to make his first title defense against Alexander Gustafsson, while middleweight champion Chris Weidman’s next fight is against Luke Rockhold.
UFC President Dana White announced the matchups on Fox Sports, the UFC’s broadcast partner. He didn’t name specific dates or locations.
Cormier (16-1) stopped Anthony "Rumble" Johnson on May 23 to win the belt vacated by Jon Jones. Gustafsson (16-3) lost to Jones in 2013 and was stopped by Johnson in January, but will get the next title shot instead of contender Ryan Bader, White says.
Weidman (13-0) defended his title for the third time on May 23 with a first-round stoppage of Vitor Belfort. Rockhold (14-2) has won four straight fights.
