Tennessee Titans’ head coach Ken Whisenhunt said, “I think there is good reason to be excited” about quarterback Marcus Mariota as the team wound up minicap Thursday.

After a series of rookie camps, organized team activities and minicamp, the Titans held their last session in Nashville Thursday and will have a six-week break until training camp opens July 30.

The preseason opener is Aug. 14 at Atlanta.

“I think he (Mariota) progressed every day,” Whisenhunt said of the No. 2 overall pick in the April 30 NFL Draft. “Credit to him and the way he works.”

At a post-practice press conference, Whisenhunt added, “Like I said, Coach (Mark) Helfrich at Oregon did a nice job preparing him. A lot of it goes to Marcus and his family, he is really well-grounded.”

Whisenhunt said, “I thought he did a great job from where he started. He did a good job the first day that he came out here. But I think he is more comfortable. It is obvious when he is comfortable he plays a little faster.”
