Jordan Spieth, Dustin Johnson, Jason Day and Branden Grace, tied at 4-under 206.
BIG RALLY
Louis Oosthuizen was among four players who were four shots behind. Oosthuizen opened with a 77. No one since World War II has started with a higher score and gone on to win the U.S. Open.
CROWDED FIELD
Ten players were within five shots of the leaders.
NOTEWORTHY
Spieth, who won the Masters, is trying to become the first player since Tiger Woods in 2002 to win the first two majors. No one has ever won the modern Grand Slam.
