A 20-year-old Kailua-Kona man is in critical condition after he was allegedly assaulted by an 18-year-old woman. 

At about 10:05 p.m. Sunday, patrol officers were at Kona Community Hospital for an unrelated case when the victim arrived in a private vehicle and taken to the emergency room with a laceration on his left forearm. 

Police said the man was involved in an altercation at a home located on the 73-1200 block of Awakea St. in Kailua-Kona, according to a news release from the Hawaii Police Department. 

Shortly after midnight, police arrested an 18-year-old woman on suspicion of first-degree assault and abuse of a family/household member. 

The investigation on the assault is ongoing.
