Police officer injured in two-vehicle crash in Kaneohe

A 42-year-old police officer was injured in a two-car crash that involved a police car Tuesday afternoon at  Likelike and Kamehameha highways in Kaneohe.

Police said two Honolulu Police Department officers were responding to an auto break-in, when their marked police vehicle was struck by another vehicle.

The officers were heading toward Kailua on Kamehameha Highway. The police vehicle’s blue light and siren were activated when they entered the intersection on a red light, police said in an email.

A sport utility vehicle, heading makai on Likelike Highway, entered the intersection on a green light and struck the police vehicle.

Paramedics responded to the scene of the crash, which occurred at 12:25 p.m. They treated the patient and transported him in serious condition to a hospital. according to an Emergency Medical Services report. No other injuries were reported.
