A brush fire above homes in the Nanakuli Homestead area scorched about eight acres Wednesday afternoon before firefighters contained the blaze, according to a Honolulu Fire Department spokesman.

No injuries were reported and no homes were damaged, HFD Capt. David Jenkins said.

Twelve companies, with about 30 personnel, responded to the scene, near the 89-300 block of Mokiawe Street, at about 1:45 p.m. Flames were about 75 feet from three or four homes, Jenkins said. No evacuations were conducted.

Firefighters contained the fire at 3:40 p.m., Jenkins said. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
