Kauai police arrested a 20-year-old Kapaa man in connection with the assault of two chaperones and a teen from a California private outdoor school at the Hanalei Pier on May 30.

Officers arrested Iona Keola Loi on two counts of third-degree assault and one count of harassment. He was released after posting bail, pending an Aug. 19 appearance in Kauai District Court.

Police said that the incident happened at about 8 p.m. on May 30 at the pier. The victims told officers that there was a confrontation with two men that resulted in the teenage boy and two adult chaperones being punched. Police said a suspect also spit on a woman chaperone when she attempted to intervene.
