A Hilo man and a woman were charged Wednesday after police spotted a stolen car in Kailua-Kona, police said.

Jeffrey Paul DeCastro Jr., 30,  was charged with unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, contempt of court and other charges. His bail was set at $24,250.

Cherise King, 35, was charged Wednesday with driving without a license, two counts of promoting a dangerous drug and three counts of possessing drug paraphernalia. Her bail was set at $10,500.

On Sunday, a 22-year-old Keaau man reported that the sedan he had been driving had been taken while he was at Malama Park in the Panaewa area of Hilo.

At 7:20 a.m. Tuesday, a patrol officer spotted the stolen car on Hale Kapili Street in Kailua-Kona. Two male passengers fled from the car and the female driver was arrested, police said.

An officer recognized one of the men and a suspect was arrested on Alii Drive in Kona.

During the investigation, detectives recovered 0.9 grams of methamphetamine from the car, along with paraphernalia associated with the use of drug, police said.
