HILO >> A 55-year-old Waimea woman has pleaded no contest to embezzling almost $100,000 from the Big Island Pop Warner Football Conference.

The Hawaii Tribune-Herald reports that Greta “Pua” Correa entered her plea to first-degree theft July 7. She is scheduled to be sentenced July 21.

Prosecutors say Correa stole the money between 2009 and 2012. The former league treasurer forged the signature of then-league president Charles Nahale on league travel fund checks.

Former President of the Puna Panthers team Keven Lee says a $108 check bounced in 2012 from a travel account that should have contained more than $100,000. He alerted league officials after the bounced check.
