A 4-year-old Maui boy who was struck by a car in a Kaanapali roadway Tuesday morning has died.

The boy was struck by a Toyota Sienna traveling north on Hakui Street, with the collision occurring in the roadway fronting 133 Hakui Loop in Kaanapali.

Transported to Maui Medical Center’s emergency room with life-threatening injuries, the boy, a Kaanapali resident, died at the center. The car’s driver, a 46-year-old woman and Kaanapali resident, was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and did not report any injuries, according to a news release issued by the Maui Police Department.

The involvement of speed, alcohol, and drug impairment do not appear to be factors in this crash however, they remain under investigation, according to the release.
