Oliveira suffers injury giving Holloway win in UFC main event
Waianae’s Max Holloway extended his winning streak to seven with a first-round TKO victory over Charles Oliveira in the main event of a UFC Fight Night card in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada on Sunday.
Holloway (14-3, 10-3 UFC) was the victor after Oliveira suffered an injury to his left shoulder area during an exchange near the cage. Holloway beckoned Oliveria to get back to his feet and Oliveira did before immediately grabbing his shoulder. Holloway went in to finish the fight and referee Herb Dean stopped the bout at 1 minute, 39 seconds.
"Everybody send your prayers to Charles. It’s a part of the game and it’s kind of sad to see that happen," Holloway said.
Oliveira, ranked No. 7 in the featherweight division, ended a four-fight winning streak and dropped to 20-5 overall and 7-5 in the UFC.
Holloway is ranked fifth in the division.
When asked about his next fight, Holloway said he wanted Frankie Edgar in Hawaii at Aloha Stadium.
